5 Alternatives to Leaving Your Dog Home Alone

The best thing you can do for your dog with separation anxiety is to not leave them alone before they are ready, except in controlled and planned training sessions.

The most important thing is to avoid your dog panicking at home alone rehearsing that behavior and experiencing that emotional distress.

What can you do instead?

  1. Bring them with you! Ask ahead of time if places are dog friendly (including your office) or pick up things through curbside options.

  2. Utilize a dog day care, sitter or walker depending on the length of time you’ll need help.

  3. Drop them off at friends or family members.

  4. Asking a neighbor to watch them at their place or yours. Bonus if they have a dog you can even offer to watch their dog for a trade!

  5. Seeing if a local retired senior would like the company of a dog for a bit without the responsibility!
